The interview, conducted by journalist Colton Praill and hosted by Heather Butts, explored the financial pressures facing developers as construction material costs continue to surge.
In the segment, Larjani offered a frank assessment of how rising input costs are threatening the feasibility of new housing projects—particularly those aiming to address the country’s growing affordability crisis.
“If you can’t make the numbers work—and the economics of the project don’t work, which they will not with these kinds of increases in the cost of construction—you can’t begin building,” said Larjani. “The building will just stop.”
Larjani’s remarks come at a time when the Canadian housing industry is already under strain, with rising interest rates, delayed approvals, and cost volatility compounding the affordability gap.
