Toronto - November 2, 2024

We’re proud to share a special moment from this year’s Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) Conference in Ottawa, where Spotlight Development President Sherry Larjani opened Plenary 2: Sharing the Weight – Unlocking Capacity Through a Collaborative Vision.

The session brought together leaders from across the public, private, and non-profit housing sectors to explore how collective efforts can unlock new pathways to affordability, equity, and long-term sustainability in housing.

As the opening speaker, Sherry framed the discussion with a call to action:

“Collaboration: It's about bringing together the public, non-for-profit, and the private sector to unite them under a shared vision for a more inclusive and affordable housing system... This is not just about putting buildings up. It's about creating ecosystems where people can thrive and prosper... Our shared duty is to provide not just shelter, but opportunity, equity, and long-term sustainability for the communities we live in.”

Joining Sherry for the panel discussion were:

Stéphane Giguère, MPA, C.Adm, Adm.A – Ottawa Community Housing

Larry Greer, CPA, CA – CAPREIT

Tony Irwin – FRPO

Marlene Coffey, MA, MAES, MCIP, RPP – CEO of ONPHA

Together, the panel tackled the challenges and opportunities of cross-sector partnerships, the private sector’s role in non-profit housing, and how we can shift from transactional approaches to transformational impact.

Spotlight Development remains committed to advancing collaboration through projects like The Inclusive, which brings together non-profits, wraparound services, and impact-focused private development to deliver deeply affordable housing across Ontario.
