Yesterday, Spotlight’s Chief Operating Officer, David Hanick, participated in a pivotal panel discussion at the 2025 Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations (CFAA) Rental Housing Conference in Vancouver.

The panel, titled “Bridging the Gap: How Public, Private, and Non-Profit Partnerships Can Address Housing Inequities,” brought together leading voices from across the housing sector to explore actionable solutions to Canada’s ongoing housing crisis.

Toronto - May 16, 2025

David was joined on stage by Kyle Pawliuk of First National Financial LP and Katie Maslechko of the Rental Protection Fund. The session was moderated by Jeremy Jackson of Killam Apartment REIT.

Held under this year’s theme, “Partnering for Progress,” the conference emphasized the need for greater collaboration across sectors to meet the pressing demand for affordable and accessible rental housing in Canada. The conversation highlighted the critical role of rental stock in building housing stability and economic mobility for Canadians from all walks of life.

“At Spotlight Development Inc., we see rental housing as a cornerstone of inclusive, future-ready communities,” said Hanick. “Addressing the housing crisis means building more—and building smarter. That’s only possible when public, private, and non-profit sectors align around a shared purpose.”

As developers of both market and affordable housing, Spotlight remains committed to forging strong partnerships that prioritize community wellbeing. Through initiatives like The Inclusive, Spotlight works with non-profit organizations and government stakeholders to ensure that rental housing in Canada remains not just available—but equitable, sustainable, and impactful.

The CFAA 2025 Rental Housing Conference was hosted at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre and brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the country. Spotlight extends thanks to CFAA and event partners including Yardi, Wyse Meter Solutions Inc., Rentals.ca, Rentsync, Metro Compactor Service Inc., and many others for facilitating such an important dialogue.
