In honour of National Housing Day, Spotlight Development Inc. reaffirms its commitment to building inclusive and affordable communities while reflecting on the transformative power of housing to foster equity, dignity, and opportunity.
Toronto - November 22, 2024
This year, Spotlight President Sherry Larjani took part in the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) Conference, contributing to Plenary 2: Sharing the Weight – Unlocking Capacity Through a Collaborative Vision. During this panel discussion, Sherry joined esteemed industry leaders, including:
Stephane Giguere, MPA, C. Adm, Adm.a – Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH)
Larry Greer, CPA, CA – Canadian Apartment Properties REIT
Tony Irwin – Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO)
Marlene Coffey, MA, MAES, MCIP, RPP – Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA)
The panel explored strategies for aligning the public, non-profit, and private sectors under a shared vision for affordable housing. Sherry emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “This is not just about putting buildings up. It's about creating ecosystems where people can thrive and prosper. Our shared duty is to provide not just shelter, but opportunity, equity, and long-term sustainability for the communities we live in.”
At Spotlight Development Inc., these principles guide projects like The Inclusive, Canada’s largest affordable housing initiative, which integrates wrap-around services such as daycare, healthcare, and employment support to empower residents and foster thriving communities.
“The ONPHA Conference and National Housing Day remind us of the critical role we all play in addressing the housing crisis,” said Sherry Larjani. “By uniting diverse stakeholders with purpose and vision, we can create housing systems that are equitable, inclusive, and sustainable.”
Spotlight Development Inc. extends its gratitude to ONPHA and all the individuals and organizations working to address the housing crisis.
